Transport operators to increase fares following increase in fuel prices
Transport operators are lamenting following price hikes at the pumps, threatening to adjust transport fares if the government does not take up measures to resolve the situation.
The price hikes at the pump in recent times has left passengers and transport operators unhappy owing to the fact that government recently approved the removal of the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levies(PRSL) on Petrol ,diesel and LPG for two months.
Per this instance the directive should have been implemented in November but to the amazement of Ghanaians, prices at the pumps have been upwardly adjusted.
Being major stakeholders in the industry, General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Godfred Abulbire cautioned that, the Union would have no option than to also increase transport fares on Tuesday November 9 2021 if government does not come to the negotiation table.
“We have taken a certain position. We think we have to take a different approach so we have submitted a proposal to the Transport Minister since last month and by Tuesday if we don’t hear anything, we shall increase our fares”.
Mr Abulbire added “by the margin of the fuel price adjustment, we know the margin of increasing our fares”.
