Members of the Ghana Union Traders Association decision to close their shop to protest against the unfriendly business climate has been reversed.

Traders closed their shops on Wednesday as part the protest against the government as they pressure authorities to fix the deteriorating economy.

The current harsh economic climate in the country triggered the action by the union to prompt the government to do something about their plight.

Issues of urgent concern to the union currently are the depreciation of the cedi and the tax regime which they seek to draw the government’s attention. GUTA says the two conditions are killing their businesses.

GUTA in a statement on Thursday 20th October 2022 rescinded its decision to have the shops remained locked and has urged its members to open their shops on Friday 21st October 2022.

The union revealed that they have since been engaged by President Akufo-Addo who was aware of their plight.

Also, a working committee according to instructions by President Akufo-Addo is to be set up to address their concerns.

Issues of the traders, the President assured, will be factored in as the government continues its talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Efforts made by President Akufo-Addo, Ga Mantse Nii Teiko Tsuru and others including the Council of State in handling the situation was highly appreciated by the union.

“Given all this goodwill from these great personalities, we wish to appeal to our teeming members and the entire trading community who participated in this strike action to reopen their shops from [Friday] as we continue to pursue the process for immediate solution,” the union said in a statement.

This according to the union, has caused it to rescind its decision to strike and called on its member to open their businesses as the leadership see to it that their myriad of issues are addressed.
