Asantehene launches Otumfuo Entrepreneurship Challenge to reduce youth unemployment
A project to tackle unemployment in the Ashanti Region has been commenced by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom dubbed the Otumfuo Entrepreneurship Challenge.
This novel challenge is targeting to capture about 10,000 youth in the Ashanti Region to equip and empower them.
According to the project lead Micheal Kwatia, this initiative is an Asanteman project and therefore targets youth in the region to help them commence businesses to aid them to earn a decent living.
“This new initiative is trying to tackle unemployment in Ghana…it is aimed at helping mainly Asanteman youth to start and grow businesses that will create wealth and jobs at the same time,” Micheal Kwatia said
The project is not targeting just the formal sector but also empowering businesses in the informal sector as well.
“One of the things we hope this project will achieve is a lot of formalization of the informal businesses. It’s not a project designed for only high-level business projects but rather our indigenous type of businesses that solve our day to day problems that we can help grow and expand,” he said
To become a beneficiary of the project, entrepreneurs and individuals need to pick an application form and if the applicant satisfies all the requirements stated on the form the person will be aided by the Otumfuo Entrepreneurship Challenge.
Due to the unemployment situation Ghana is saddled with, this project comes in handy to help salvage the situation to reduce the increasing statistics related to the menace.
