Accra-Tema train shuttle resumes operations, passengers express excitement
The Ghana Railway Company Limited has resumed the Accra-Tema Shuttle after a temporary shutdown due to rehabilitation works. This will help ease motor traffic and congestion in the capital city.
In an interview with Active News, Randy Mould, who is the Public Relations Officer(PRO) for the GRCL disclosed that the operations were suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak and other rehabilitation purposes.
He said the Ghana Railway Company Limited conducted a series of tests to determine the sustainability of the railway line for passenger service.
Mr Mould disclosed that the train has two divisions which are the first class(VIP) and second class with a price tag of 7 cedis and 5 cedis respectively but initially it was 5 cedis for the first class and 3 cedis for the second class.
He added that the shuttle runs twice daily with its departure at 6:15 am from Tema to Accra and the return trip at 5 pm from Accra.
According to him, the shuttle has four stopping points before arriving at the final destination.
Some passengers expressed their joy due to the early arrival to their destination and the cost-effectiveness of using the train as compared to the normal buses. They, however, pleaded with the government to rehabilitate the Accra-Nsawam railway line to also serve that section of the public.
